 Ask Sam
For some home can be scary because someone they live with hurts others. It might be a parent or family member that hurts someone else — this is called domestic violence. I’d be interested in hearing from anyone who sees someone they care about being hurt.
You can also read letters about other issues further down this page. If there’s something on your mind, you can always ask me for some advice. Remember that I can’t answer every letter that I get, but I will answer as many as possible.
Take care,
Sam

In this short guided meditation, Tibetan Buddhist meditation master Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche gives simple instructions for bringing awareness to the body, sensory experience, space, and finally to awareness itself. The main point of the practice is to fully embrace the present moment with mindfulness and awareness. To take a free, self-guided intro to meditation course,

Perhaps you want to meditate but aren’t sure how to begin, or maybe you’ve been meditating for a while and could use some inspiration. Whether you’re just getting started or have been meditating for years, Mingyur Rinpoche’s teachings are sure to breathe new life into your practice.
The Tergar community provides many opportunities to learn more about the practice of meditation, including workshops and retreats, seminars on the philosophy and practice of Tibetan Buddhism, and an extensive library of freely offered teachings.

Learn to Meditate Online

The Tergar Learning Community (TLC) offers a variety of courses that you can follow at your own pace. It doesn’t matter where you live or how busy you are. If you want to get a feel for Mingyur Rinpoche and his teachings, check out our free Intro to Meditation course. This self-guided course includes four teachings that cover the basics of meditation practice. There’s even a forum where you can share your experience or ask a Tergar practice leader questions about meditation practice.
If you’re ready for some in-depth instruction, then check out our Joy of Living Level I seminar, the first level of Mingyur Rinpoche’s Joy of Living program. In this six-week course, you will explore the landscape of experience with mindful awareness, learning how to use the body, sensory experiences, thoughts, emotions, and even awareness itself as supports for meditation. And Joy of Living Level II, Opening the Heart, teaches you how to awaken loving-kindness and compassion through meditation.
You might also want to check back each month to watch Mingyur Rinpoche’s Monthly Teaching and to browse our growing library.
To learn more, take a look at our course offerings.

Browse the Tergar library

The Tergar library contains a wealth of teachings on meditation and Buddhist practice, with everything from guided meditations to lengthy teachings on loving-kindness and compassion. We also have reading lists, such as our Top Ten Books for Beginning Meditators, and original articles and interviews. Our library is growing all the time, so be sure to check back regularly to see what we’ve added.

And more is on the way…

This is just the beginning for TLC. In the coming months and years, we will be adding many new courses, expanding our library, and offering exciting live events and retreats to support the global Tergar community. Here’s a taste of what we have in store:
  • Awakening Wisdom ~ The Joy of Living Levels III
  • The Life and Teachings of the Buddha ~ The first course in our Exploring Buddhism Program
  • Live teachings by Tergar lamas and instructors
  • Online retreats and practice opportunities

Find a Tergar Community or Group

Tergar has Communities hand Practice Groups on five continents: North and South America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. Our mission is to make it as easy as possible for people to learn how to meditate and to support one another in practice. Local Tergar communities offer regular meditation groups, meditation workshops and retreats with Tergar lamas and instructors, and other events related to the practice of meditation and the study of Tibetan Buddhism.
We’re a very ground-up community, so if you have any ideas or input, please don’t hesitate to let us know. We’d love to hear your thoughts.
